Everything you need to know about PingElo
ELO is a rating system originally designed for chess that measures player skill levels. After each match, winners gain ELO points and losers lose them. The amount depends on how unexpected the result was.
Every new player starts at 1000 ELO. From there, your rating grows as you win matches and learn from losses. The system adapts to your experience level.
Your profile page shows an interactive ELO history chart. Filter by timeframe to see:
New players adjust quickly while veterans maintain stable ratings. The K-factor determines how much your ELO can change per match.
| Games Played | K-Factor | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 0-10 games | 64 | Rapid adjustment for new players |
| 11-30 games | 48 | Still adjusting quickly |
| 31-100 games | 32 | Established, stable players |
| 100+ games | 24 | Veterans - slow to change |
In all matches (casual and tournament), dominating wins earn a bonus multiplier. This rewards playing well, not just winning. Both winner AND loser are affectedโ big wins mean bigger changes for everyone!
Close games (1-4 points)
Standard ELO change
Clear wins (5-9 points)
25% bonus to ELO change
Dominance (10+ points)
50% bonus to ELO change
Example: K=32, blowout win (10+ pts): Winner gets +24 ELO, Loser loses 24 ELO
Every month starts a new season with everyone at 1000 ELO. This gives newcomers a fair chance and lets everyone compete for the top spot on the season leaderboard.
The season winner receives a 10% bonus of their season gains added to their forever ELO. This applies to singles, doubles (individual), AND teams! Season championships matter for everyone.
Track the time remaining in the current season with the countdown widget on your dashboard. When the countdown reaches zero, a new season begins and all season ELOs reset to 1000!
Play at least one match per day to maintain your streak. Streaks unlock bonus ELO rewards!
Note: Missing up to 2 days won't break your streak thanks to the grace period! Play again within 3 days and your streak continues.
Earn achievements by hitting milestones in your ping pong journey. They're tracked automatically as you play matches!

Want to prove you're better than a friend? Issue a challenge! Challenges let you set up official matchups with ELO stakes. Put your ELO on the line!
When you challenge someone, both players put up ELO stakes:
5 ELO
10 ELO
15 ELO
20 ELO
25 ELO
Example:10 ELO stake โ Winner gets 20 ELO (their 10 back + opponent's 10)
Note: Challenges expire after 7 days if not accepted. Once accepted, both players must have enough ELO to cover the stake.
PingElo supports both singles and doubles matches. Doubles matches use a separate ELO rating (Doubles Forever ELO) that tracks your team performance.
Important: Your individual ELO changes use YOUR K-factor (based on your personal doubles games), while your TEAM'S ELO changesuse your TEAM'S K-factor.
For regular games, pick any 4 players for ad-hoc matches. No team registration needed. Great for spontaneous games!
Doubles tournaments require registered teams from the current season. This ensures fair competition and team accountability.
How it works:You create a team โ Someone else creates a team with you โ Both teams exist! But you can't create a third team, and the same partnership can't exist twice in one season.
PingElo supports multiple tournament formats to suit different play styles:
Lose once and you're out. Best for quick tournaments.
Get a second chance! Losers move to the loser bracket.
Everyone plays everyone. Fairest format!
No elimination! Standings-based pairings over multiple rounds.
Tournaments use a tiered entry system. The platform adds 50 ELO to each tournament prize pool. Prize Pool = Entry Fees + 50 ELO
| Your ELO | Entry Fee |
|---|---|
| Below 800 | Free! |
| 800-999 | 10 ELO |
| 1000-1199 | 20 ELO |
| 1200+ | 50 ELO |
In doubles, both players pay the same fee based on team average ELO:
(Player1 ELO + Player2 ELO) / 2 = Team Average โ Each pays that fee
Examples: 1200+800=1000avgโ20+20=40 total | 750+1200=975avgโ10+10=20
50%
of prize pool
35%
of prize pool
15%
of prize pool
When a doubles team places, players get individual rewards to their doublesForeverElo, and the TEAM gets the total:
Example: 1st place = 250 ELO โ Each player gets 125, Team gets 250
